Moonlight Reads

Moonlight Reads is an initiative by Sunbeam Theatre to provide emerging artists to read text aloud in a group setting. It serves as a place for connection between emerging artists, emerging playwrights, and members of the wider theatre community.
Plays are suggested by participants, and we welcome new play submissions by emerging playwrights.

Participants sign up in advance to accommodate numbers.
As part of the sign-up form, they are invited to indicate whether they would like to read a small, medium, or large role, or just sit in and listen.
A pdf of the play is provided in advance to all the participants, and physical copies of the play are available at the event.
A coffee break and end-of-play discussion time provide valuable time for community and connection among participants.
Who is this for?
For Actors
Actors know it is good practice to read plays aloud, but it is often difficult to do so alone. This space provides accountability and community connection for actors to practice their cold-reading skills.
For Playwrights
Each month, we rotate between existing and new works. Having the opportunity to have early drafts of plays be read aloud is a valuable tool for playwrights to hear their text through someone else's voice, and hear feedback in a low-stress environment.
For Community Members
Community members wishing to immerse themselves in low-stakes theatre spaces are welcome and encouraged to participate in moonlight reads, as readers or as listeners, and participate in community discussion.
